Stuck in the Middle: caring for Mom and Dad
There are 75 million adult children in this country taking care of their aging
mom and dad. The Sandwich Generation needs information and tips on how
to survive this “new” job and role reversal.
Barbara McVicker is an eldercare expert, national speaker and author of Stuck
in the Middle: Shared Stories and Tips on Caring for Mom and Dad. Stuck in
the Middle is an award-winning book for the Boomer Generation, who are stuck
in the middle of kids, career and caring for aging parents. Her newest books are–
Before Things Fall Apart: Preparing to Care for Mom and Dad and Before Things Fall Apart: The Essential Workbook.
Barbara was a caregiver to her parents for 10 years while raising two children
and struggling to maintain her career as a high-level development director.
Overwhelmed and feeling isolated, she eventually quit her job to care for her
parents full time.
As an eldercare expert, she works with healthcare professionals, caregivers,
financial institutions, human resource work-life balance departments and
attorneys. She has presented keynotes and webinars to many of the top
Fortune 500 Companies. Barbara offers emotional support and essential
information to adult caregivers who are struggling to keep balance in their
family and work life.
Her resume includes being a Robert Wood Johnson researcher at Case
Western Reserve Medical School, and more recently raising millions of dollars
for nonprofit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. Barbara’s degrees
and graduate courses are from Wittenberg University, University of Vienna
(Austria), and Case Western Reserve University.
Barbara has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, AARP, CNN,
NPR, NBC and Business First. She is a SCUBA diver, aspiring pilot and has
traveled to all 7 continents.
